Phnom Penh 2 Day Private Tour

Day 1

Your private tour of Phnom Penh will begin after you've been picked up from your hotel. We'll begin by exploring the Royal Palace. Get to know the different buildings of this complex, which is, to this day, the residence of the King of Cambodia. Amongst the many Khmer architectural-style structures that make up the Royal Palace, the Silver Pagoda is a particular highlight. As well as being inlaid with 5000 silver tiles, it's also home to some of the country's most important national treasures, including the "Emerald Buddha" and a life-size gold Buddha.

Delve deeper into Cambodian history on your next stop at the National Museum, the country's main history and archaeology museum, before stopping for lunch at a local restaurant to recharge batteries ready for the next part of your tour.

The afternoon will take you out of the bustle of Phnom Penh: you'll head to Silk Island or Koh Dach, where you'll enjoy a short river cruise. The boat trip, of around 10 miles (15 km), will take you to a small island whose inhabitants work to produce hand-woven silk.

You'll finish off your first day being dropped off back at your hotel in the center of Phnom Penh around 5 pm.

Day 2

After being picked up from your hotel, you'll set off for the second day of your private guided tour of Phnom Penh. The first stop on your route will be the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, which is also known as S-21 as it was "Security Prison 21" during one of the darkest chapters of the country's history. Now dedicated to chronicling the events of the Cambodian genocide, the former high school was a Khmer Rouge internment and torture center. It's estimated that at least 17,000 people were imprisoned at Tuol Sleng, of which there are only 12 known survivors.

Continuing your journey through history, you'll next visit the Choeung Ek Memorial, which has become known worldwide as "The Killing Fields": the sites where more than a million people were executed and buried by the Khmer Rouge regime. The memorial commemorates the many victims of the genocide.

At this point in the day, you'll take a break for lunch in a local restaurant before beginning the next part of your tour. In the afternoon, you'll visit Wat Ounalom, a Buddhist temple and monastery complex, and Wat Phnom, the temple for which the city was named. After enjoying the spectacular architecture of these places of worship, where you'll see a large number of Buddhist monks who live and practice their faith here, you'll finish your guided tour at the famous Russian Market, a hive of shopping activity popular with locals and tourists alike.

Your tour will end back at your hotel at around 5 pm.
